Although you can use the oil in many ways but for hemorrhoids relief, you can use it in 3 different ways.
Application for topical use
This is simple and easy. All you have to do is to dip a clean cotton ball in virgin coconut oil and apply it over the affected area for 5-10 minutes. You can reapply it 3-5 times a day until you feel a relief.
You can use it like this after each bowel movement. Just make sure that the rectal area is always clean before applying it. Also, use a fresh cotton ball every time when you get the coconut oil. This will preserve the quality of oil and keep it free from any bacteria.
You can also use oil mixed with other herbs and other oils to make an ointment, balm or rub. You can use Turmeric, Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel, Apple Cider Vinegar or ACV, lemon juice, almond oil, Olive oil, Lavender oil and Tea Tree oil for the same. Coconut oil serves as an excellent carrier or base oil for most essential oils
Each of these ingredients will give added advantages. – Witch hazel, Apple cider vinegar and Aloe Vera are especially known to be beneficial with hemorrhoids.
Coconut oil Drink
Coconut oil can also be taken internally, it can work as a natural laxative. The oil is essentially all fat but structure of fat is different here. It has high quantity of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). It is hard for the body to store them as fat and they are also easier to burn off.
It provides a gentle laxative effect to your bowel movements which in turn helps with constipation and hemorrhoids.
Dosage
The maximum dose you can take is 2-3 tablespoons in a day and not more than that You can take a small amount and see if it suits you. You can add it to your coffee, toast or spread and take it.
You can also take it with green tea. Just mix a tablespoon of oil in lukewarm tea and drink it slowly.

Coconut oil suppository
Suppositories are an effective way to treat internal hemorrhoids. A suppository is a preparation which is made for insertion into the rectum. You can use coconut oil suppository for getting all the healing advantages of coconut oil.
This is simple to make
- If you are already in warmer temperatures you will have coconut oil in liquid form and colder weather would have it in a solid state. So work accordingly. The aim is to make small suppositories which are easy to enter.
- So first step is to get the oil into semi solid state. You will have to warm the oil a bit if its solid and cool it if it is liquid. Semi solid state will make it easy for us to mould it into a certain shape.
- Take a wax paper or aluminum foil and spread a line of semi-solid coconut oil with the thickness and length of a pencil
- Wrap the paper or foil around it and freeze it
- When frozen, take it out and cut a 1 inch piece from the line of oil.
- Take that 1 inch piece and insert in the rectum
- Repeat for about 2-3 times a day.
- When you are working with frozen oil, you have to be quick or it just melts and deforms.
Note – this can be greasy so you can easily spoil your clothes. Make sure you wear something that can handle the oil.
There are coconut gel capsules also available in the market which can be used in same way, just in case you don’t have time to make your own suppositories. But it is always advisable to make your own, it only takes a few minutes to make them.
Can it be used in pregnancy?
Coconut oil, especially virgin coconut oil is completely natural and can easily be used in pregnancy. It is pretty safe unless you have any allergies or reactions with the oil. If you are suffering from internal, external or even bleeding hemorrhoids in your pregnancy, it is actually advised to use coconut oil daily as an application on it to keep it soft.
